If you use the Firefox browser, and you use the "Bookmark Toolbar" then you might really like this nifty trick!

  • 1) Right-click on your Bookmark Toolbar.
  • Paste the code below onto the Bookmark Toolbar.
  • It's going to look ugly at first, e.g. Bookmark will say "javascript:(function)" but don't worry, we are going to change that.
  • Right Click your new bookmark, and go to "Properties"
  • Change the name to anything you want. Then Save.

Now, when you browse a website, for example, we will use an ESPN article "http://sports.espn.go.com/ncf/news/story?id=4736848 ... Go to that link, and press your new bookmark!

Presto! It takes out all the images, flash, and converts the article into a very easy to read page right on your web browser! This feature is great for those who read a lot of blogs, or press releases. Heck, it's great for everyone!

Example: Before you click your new toolbar link.

Example: After you click your new toolbar link.

And you can toggle back and forth!
javascript:(function(){readStyle='style-newspaper';readSize='size-large';readMargin='margin-wide';_readability_script=document.createElement('SCRIPT');_readability_script.type='text/javascript';_readability_script.src='http://lab.arc90.com/experiments/readability/js/readability.js?x='+(Math.random());document.getElementsByTagName('head')[0].appendChild(_readability_script);_readability_css=document.createElement('LINK');_readability_css.rel='stylesheet';_readability_css.href='http://lab.arc90.com/experiments/readability/css/readability.css';_readability_css.type='text/css';_readability_css.media='screen';document.getElementsByTagName('head')[0].appendChild(_readability_css);_readability_print_css=document.createElement('LINK');_readability_print_css.rel='stylesheet';_readability_print_css.href='http://lab.arc90.com/experiments/readability/css/readability-print.css';_readability_print_css.media='print';_readability_print_css.type='text/css';document.getElementsByTagName('head')[0].appendChild(_readability_print_css);})();

1. In the "Media Manager" section, upload the images that you wish to place in the gallery. You can use the images already in the Media Manager to practice.

2. Create a new page from teh administration control panel with the "Add New Content" button. Add the desired text and a page title. Place your mouse at the location where you want to place the Image Gallery.

3. Click the "Image" button beneath the article and select the desire image.

  • The "Image Title" value displays when the cursor hovers over the image.
  • The "Image Description" displays for web browsers without image support.
  • Use the "Caption" checkbox to display a caption below your image.
  • When complete, click the Insert button and your image will be placed into your article.

4. Once in your article, you can resize the image by "grabbing" its corner and carefully changing the size proportionally.

5. Repeat previous steps until all images have been added. Arrange the images and text until the desired layout is achieved, and add formatting if necessary. Save the page.

6. (Optional) You can create links on your images. To do this, select the image and click the "Link" icon (which resembles a link of a chain). Fill in the requested details.

Login to your Joomla Administrator

Once you login to the backend, e.g. "www.yoursite.com/administrator" with your username and password. Click "Media Manager" which is located under Site as a sub-menu link called "Media Manager".

Once inside, you will notice there are various thumbnails of images already stored on your website. At the bottom of that page, is a "Browse" and "Upload" field. At the top, you will see the title Files with a file path underneath of it, e.g. "/home/sitename/public_html/images" -- and this is where you want to be. So, if you upload a picture using the browse/upload form below, the file will be uploaded to e.g. "/home/sitename/public_html/images/picture.jpg" and the URL for that picture is e.g. www.yoursite.com/images/picture.jpg.

Go back to Article Manager, and use the "What You See Is What You Get" WYSIWYG Editor, and add your picture URL when prompted. It's that easy!
